Daughters Of Darkness (Les Levres Rouges)

Directed by Harry Kumel

Belgium/France/West Germany, 1971

In this hilariously campy horror flick, vampire Delphine Seyrig and her equally devilish bloodsucking lover (Andrea Rau) stay at a posh European resort and seduce a handsome couple into their lair, killing the husband and keeping the beautiful wife for themselves. The young lady in question isn’t too sorry about the turnout, especially considering that her husband was emotionally abusive, but Rau becomes angry when she realizes that she is being replaced by younger blood. Great visuals and terrific sets make for the kind of movie that belongs right up there with Paul Morrissey’s Blood For Dracula and Dario Argento’s Suspiria.
